Do Your Job!

Those three words were made famous lately by one of the greatest coaches that ever lived, Bill Belichick. Love the man or not, his philosophy works and should be the fiber of every person in the country. He doesn’t ask the safety to do the defensive lineman’s job, he only wants them to do their own job. Isn’t that what we were taught many years ago in schools and at home? My blog today was inspired by many things and conversations this week but the story of the man who shot those two co-workers resonates this title the most. Here…

Who is Your Client?

I’m amazed at how many people, when you ask this question, haven’t a clue what to answer back. I do get all kinds of answers back like “everybody” or the classic answer, “rich people.” I have to laugh at the latter one. With the average consumer dominating the buying market, how could anyone come back with an answer like that? I have been around a lot of coaching or sales training companies and I have to say, all of them want you to identify your ideal client. The more you break down your list, the quicker you will find these…

Caring for Your Kitchen

Caring for your kitchen can sometimes be a pain and time-eater. This is especially true when we wait till something breaks or when we wait too long between cleanings or maintenance. Most people own some sort of wood cabinetry whether they are a stained wood variety or painted, and they need to be cared for. It doesn’t matter which finish they have; they all need cleaning and remoistening. Wood needs to breathe just like our bodies do. All woods, whether painted or stained, take in and let out moisture. When wood is initially prepared and dried to use for furniture…

Fit for a Magazine

Downsizing can be a daunting project. It helps when you’re a contractor and the ideal land comes onto the market at the right time. But that was just the beginning for this Cape Cod couple. The empty nesters hired an architect to design the home, a landscaping company to design the grounds, and Wood Palace Kitchens to design all of their cabinetry. The completed home was featured in the Fall 2014 issue of Home Remodeling magazine. Here are some images from this stunning project.

A Little Ditty About Responsibility

I’m not sure about you but as we get in deeper with the connected world, people are becoming more and more irresponsible. It seems like an epidemic of people not wanting to be responsible as they shout, “It’s not my problem!” Whether we believe it or not, everything that surrounds each of us will be our problem to get past sooner or later. Do we need a school to teach responsibility to everyone or will we keep going the way it’s going? I have to say our mother and father drove this word into our heads since we were old…

Remodeling 101, Don’t Let Them Fool You

If you mention the word remodeling to most people, I either get a groan or they give me that look of fear. Most will blame the home remodeling trade or contractors for the reason remodeling is such a deflating experience. Is it really their fault or is it lack of knowledge of the consumer? Most will debate you till you are blue in the face, but I know better. Over the years, we have become a throwaway society in the name of cheap prices. You see it from all the large consumer companies like Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target, and…

Granite vs. Quartz Counter Tops

Stone has become the craze in most of the kitchens across the nation. Whether people are putting in lower-cost cabinets or going all the way up to the more expensive cabinets, stone by far is the most chosen material for counter tops. How have we arrived at this, you might be asking? Natural materials are taking over our thoughts and homes over the last ten years. The richness of natural stone can be replaced by nothing, even the newer finished laminates. Americans want real, and there isn’t much holding them back anymore. Even if it is just on the island…

Shades of Grey

With today’s busy and hectic lifestyles, life in general becomes a life on the run for most families. With email, cell phones, tablets, social media, and everything else that we use every day, it’s tough to have one place where we do our work and think. The old desk area in the kitchen has become obsolete, and the way we think and feel about the island in our kitchens has turned it into a multi-task space. Colors come and go just as fast as the old desk. The lighter and airy colors that are available now, the brighter our moods…

Are you a Salesperson?

I can still remember like it was yesterday when I was asked if I was a salesperson. I was around twenty-one years old and had just started my business and that uneasy feeling came to my stomach as I proclaimed that no, I’m not a salesperson, I don’t like to push people with their decision making. You know that feeling I’m talking about? It’s almost like you are being accused of killing someone. No, I could never be a salesperson and be pushy and obnoxious like them was what I was telling myself after I answered the older gentleman’s question….
