Shades of Grey

IMG_2683 (3)With today’s busy and hectic lifestyles, life in general becomes a life on the run for most families. With email, cell phones, tablets, social media, and everything else that we use every day, it’s tough to have one place where we do our work and think. The old desk area in the kitchen has become obsolete, and the way we think and feel about the island in our kitchens has turned it into a multi-task space. Colors come and go just as fast as the old desk. The lighter and airy colors that are available now, the brighter our moods will be.

These are the reasons we have re-identified the island area space in one of our new displays here in our showroom. When we decided to design an area for our showroom receptionist, we wanted it to be different than the normal business receptionist area. Our thought right from the beginning was to use this space as an area that people would relate to in their own home. Fade in and re-introduce the island as a multi-functional area.

With this new thought in mind, we needed to balance the needs of our showroom receptionist as well as our clients in their own home. Receptionists need a place to sit and work on their laptop or tablet. They need a space to accommodate their paperwork and files. They want it to be open to our clients as well as having a welcoming feel, just in case a new client wants to sit and chat with them. They would like the area to display fun and colorful items. They need it to be comfortable and they want design, color, and function to meld closely together. When we got right down to it we noticed that our clients look for the same things for their own space in their kitchens. Welcome to the birth of the complete lifestyle island.

Many homes have small areas with an eat-in kitchen area for the family table. Many of these homes have separate dining areas. The kitchen space makes it near impossible to fit an island, let alone an island that has a seating area. This is where a professional designer needs to marry the two spaces to marry function with design. With islands being a very important item that most clients dream of having in their new space, it’s important for us to listen carefully to their wants and needs. Getting the space right is important to them and their family lives. Always Dream First and always waiting for you in the end will be that perfect space for you to enjoy for years!

Bon Appetit!
